Seems to work well
I bought this for our travel trailer but have only tested it at home so far. The entire unit gets really hot. Even underneath. I would recommend putting it on a heat resistant surface before cooking. I like that you can use it with all types of cookware, unlike the induction cooktops which require a specific type of cookware.

FOR THE COST, SO FAR SO GOOD!!!
I got this little hot plate because it was at a good price (about 30 bux I think). Now, after a few months, it seems to still work like new, holds the selected temperatures, and heats a 3-quart pot of water to a fast boil in about six minutes.I like it and I hope I don't have to come back and update this reviews to a lower grade.Thanks//(~_~)\\AU

Perfect stand alone burner…
It blows my mind how this manufacturer can go above and beyond in warning customers that this until will smoke the first time it’s turned on, explaining this is 100% normal and to be expected, yet people still freaked out and deemed theirs defective and “dangerous” when it smoked the first time it was used. You’re instructed to run it for 10-15 minutes to let it burn off and clear the smoke. From there, you are good to go. Despite the ample warning about the initial smoking, countless people failed to heed the numerous warnings and decided to give this a one star rating for smoking when they turned it on. Ridiculous! Please ignore the low ratings. I followed the instructions and let the smoke clear the first time it was turned on. It works perfectly, and the burner is a larger size than most. If you are in need of a single burner, I highly recommend this one.

Great for soup pots; base gets too hot
I got this hot plate for hot pot. It does great heating the pan! It kept the big pot of water at a small rolling boil for over an hour, with us adding cold meats and veggies and pasta. I started the pot on my stove and moved it to the hot plate to keep it warm, so I'm not sure how long it would take from cold to boil a pot of water. The whole base gets VERY hot, including the knows for temperature control. Something to consider based on what your use is. Overall, I'm very happy with this product!

Works great!
I work as a mechanic and bought this so I can cook a little something for lunch at work. First couple times you use it, smoke will come out of it from all over, and it stinks horribly. So I would recommend turning it on outside the first time and letting it burn off. The instructions that come with it do say that when you first use it, it will smoke, and it's perfectly normal. The hot plate works well. I have used it to fry some eggs, crisp up some spam and cook a few other things. So far it has been pretty durable. It gets pulled off a shelf, set up on the work bench and put back every day. Has been dropped a couple times and no visible damage, and hasn't affected function. Well pleased with it so far!

Does the job
Bought a new home with no stove. Found out the reason. Very difficult to find one to fit the space. I had to order a special one that took a month to arrive.Bought this to cook on and it has worked out very well. Nice looking and sturdy.

Beware: Poor Quality, Burn Potential, and a Fire Hazard
I received my unit in mid-April, and by August it’s already a goner after using it maybe just 2-3 times a month. I don’t expect it to be a workhorse, replacing my conventional range, but the poor quality is just astounding, never mind the danger this portable single burner poses. In June, I started to notice that the entire unit, not only the two knobs, would get super hot to the touch after heating. I could not adjust the knobs without using oven mittens. Then, in August, after turning on the unit, smoke started to come out behind the knobs smelling like burnt plastic. I shut that thing off and pulled the plug pretty quickly. The whole thing could’ve burst into flames! No way, in good conscience, could I ever recommend this portable burner. The manufacturers and sellers must be aware of these dangers, but are still selling them. Talk about corporate greed.

Well Made
Nice cooktop heats up quickly. I’m putting it in my Hurricane kit. Cooking everything in the microwave gets old quickly.
