This is a very powerful trap with enough force to break your finger if you’re misfortunate enough to have it snap on you. You must be very careful when you’re setting these traps. You want to place these traps where children and animals such as rabbits, squirrels, birds and chipmunks don’t get in them. They are listed as humane. I don’t know what‘s humane about getting your skull crushed. Once this trap snaps on the rat’s head or neck they’ll never know what hit them. Its lights out for the rat. If they are misfortunate enough to get their leg caught in the trap they will lay there and suffer or chew their leg off in order to get free. Although I have no love for rats I don’t want them to suffer in pain for hours. I want to kill them as quickly as possible. Rats carry diseases and are responsible for numerous house fires by chewing electric wires inside the walls. In order for these traps to work they must be baited with something that will attract the rats. Peanut butter is a good choice or a hunk of cheese works nicely. These traps are reusable and should last for years. Just be careful because they can hurt you.

The reason that I like this product cannot be summed up in a few words. It's incredibly simple to use thanks to the Easy Set design. The fact that it's made in the USA is a bonus. Designed specifically for rats, it has been swift and effective in solving my rodent problem. The instant kill feature ensures a humane approach, which I appreciate. The oversized trip pedal is a great touch, too. All in all, quite satisfied with my purchase.

We had rats eating my chili plants in the backyard. We put out a few of these traps, killed two and they've never come back. I used the instructions I found from a pair of twin brothers on YouTube for baiting the traps and they worked perfectly. The spring is very strong, so you need to watched your fingers when you set the trap, but trust me, they do the job!

Work well but need to kink up the holding wire a little otherwise snaps to easy.

The only good thing about this trap is that the added yellow piece make it much easier and safer to set it up as compared to the older version of this trap. With the older version you really have to be very careful or else you may break your fingers.But unfortunately this trap does not work as expected. I set up several of these over several nights and when I came back the next morning I noticed the trap had snapped and the bait (peanut) was gone, but there was no rats in the trap. The description says that the yellow piece is to ensure higher catch rate, but I believe that exact yellow piece is making it much more difficult for the rats to get caught. The original version of this trap is the best, where it almost always takes one try to catch the rats with that one, you just have to be very careful when setting it up so it wouldn't snap while you are still setting it up and break your fingers.

Cought 2 rats in a week. They ruined our expensive chair pad and were hanging out and chewing under the hood of my car. You may have to adjust a trap if it won’t set and keeps going off. There is a spot on the plastic were the rod goes to set the trap and you may have to adjust the hold down pins so the rod moves forward a smidget.

These rat traps with the plastic bait paddle are much easier to set and less fussy than the ones where you have to catch the arm bar on a little metal piece for the trigger. It's a lot easier to set these down without accidentally triggering them. Sliced American cheese is the perfect bait for these because you can press it and form it against the plastic paddle so the rats will have to work to get it off. I've killed a lot of rats with these and they're perfectly reusable most of the time. I've had very little mess from these.

We bought a $60 electric trap that did absolutely nothing for two weeks in a heavily infested barn, using all kinds of bait. We returned it, put these out, and in 2 days have caught 2 rats. I am perfectly happy with 1 rat a day. We are using a peanut as bait, as these did not come with bait as some reviews mentioned. So far they seem to be 100% more effective than the expensive electric trap. The two rats it caught were not messy to dispose of, and it's easy to reset.

As said in other reviews get the M205 not the M205R. Even the M205 spring tends to bend after 7 or 8 goes so get the 12 pack. You'll see the paths the rodents make. I've found putting 2 traps together side-by-side with springs in opposing orientations across the run works. Put loads down and you'll get them. No bait required. I've taken over 40 out in the past week alone. Very effective traps.
