Value for money and it is a real stove compared to the "hot plates"
It works just like the way we wanted ! I have tried a GE "hot plate " before and it took much longer to bring water to a boil. This stove ? Man ! this is a real stove. We are doing all our deep frying jobs on it now. It works just like a regular stove. It looks better with a nice stainless steel finish, it has controls for different heat settings (although we use the highest all the time) and has indicators. It is easily portable (not that heavy) - what else to say ! One of the best purchases I made in this section. I got it about a month back and very satisfied until now. Would I recommend this ? - Absolutely with a capital A. I have read reviews about this product before buying it and I am happy that I believed those guys who wrote them and want to thank them . I usually don't bother to write reviews , but this product forced me to write one. Man this is good and its makers deserve a pat on the shoulder. They deserve to get business.

Not what it used to be
This brand name used to be the one to buy due to the build quality and great customer service… well that is a memory now because they just don’t last anymore, this specific unit works great in the beginning but after a few months it is all down hill from there… guess I will have to find another brand now???

very good
It is not easy to buy a reliable hot plate/cooking range.Over the years I used many different brands and models, and most of them are cheaply made, poorly designed and stop working after a too short period of time.Having read a lot of reviews, I noticed, that many complaints are related to temperature control. In some models, temperature controller turns off heat too soon, resulting in prolonged time to boil a kettle of water. In other models, temperature controller turns heat off too late , even on “low” setting, resulting in food being boiled over.Of the two, I selected the second type. Under no circumstances, I want to see a controller cycling on and off, when I set it at “max”. If it is set on “max”, it means that the heat shall be “on” all the time. Finally I settled for Canadian Toastess, single-coil, 1000W, stainless steel range, as the one which boils water well. It has 43” long cord with 3-prong plug, 6”DIA coil, and 10”x10” foot print. The knob has four temperature settings between Max and Min. There are two control lamps: “red” –indicating that the range is plugged in a live outlet and “green”-indicating whether the heat is on or off.The complaints were that on setting “1” it still does not cycle off-on frequently enough to enable simmering. I found that there is enough space between settings: “1” and “MIN” to enable low heat operation.Pros:1. Provides continues heat on MAX.2. Small 10’x10” footprint.3. Stainless steel body4. Elegant “European style” design. Pleasure to look at. I hate eyesores designed by “engineers”.5. Two control lamps. Many other models have only one or none.6. Audible sound on switching between heat on-off.Cons:1. The marking on the temperature control knob rubbed off completely after 2 months. I had to make my own markings with white permanent marker.2. Difficult cleaning under the coil.

OK for boiling water, cooking pasta, and that's about all
I bought this unit after my 2-burner Black and Decker proved a bad purchase and died anyway. As other reviewers have noted, the 'temperature control' on the Toastess is a joke. Why manufacturers cannot have a true 'gradient' where the numbers on the dial "mean something" is beyond me. There is NO WAY to 'warm' something or 'slow cook' something with this turkey. At level 3 on the dial, things burn. At level 2, they don't even cook. 'In Between' is simply an exercise in frustration. It's a very attractive unit, and easily cleaned, that much can be said. But it is simply unusable for much other than boiling water or cooking pasta. I have gone back to my Coleman 'camp stove', with real temperature control that is also quite visible.

Cheap but worthy when compared.
For the money it's good. Although it did burn out after @ 8 months. And I didn't use it for @ 4 months which was summer time. (I used it to warm a stock pot with @ 20 quarts of water during the cold of winter for goats.) Let me note that I kept the heat setting about half way and on continually, in the garage, out of the weather. It worked goodly. I may buy another. BTW, I looked for replacement elements online, but it's easier to just buy a whole new unit.

Wow! Better than expected.
I read the reviews of all of the other single burners and this one had only two reviews at the time I made the decision to purchase. The reviewer who said they used it for 6 months to cook deer meat is the one that convinced me. I just received this today and decided to cook sloppy joes out on my patio. Unfortunately, I only had a pound of frozen ground beef, so I put it in a skillet on top of the Toastess burner (set to the highest setting) and waited to see what would happen. Surprisingly enough, the Toastess began browning the frozen ground beef almost immediately. It was cooking as well as, if not better than, my regular stovetop. It didn't take long at all for the frozen ground beef to cook enough for me to break it up with my spatula. As I continued to cook it on the highest level and added water to the ground beef, I was pleasantly surprised at how well the Toastess was able to maintain it's cooking temperature.Once the beef finished cooking and I added all of my ingredients, I changed the temperature setting from MAX to #2 (there are 6 settings 1 through 5 plus MAX) to let the beef simmer and the Toastess handled simmering very well too.I can't rave enough about this product. The stainless steel finish looks great and it cooks as well as it looks. I wish I could give it a rating higher than 5 stars because it amazes me that a product this inexpensive performs so well.Very happy with my purchase!

Worth the Extra Cost
We are currently living in RV and found that water was taking a very long time to come to boil on our propane range. We decided to get a electric burner in hopes of speeding up the heating process. While not as good as the electric stove we used to have in our house, this little burner still brings the water to a boil in half the time (or less) of our propane RV stove. This model cost us double what we could have got locally but it is stainless steel and has proven to be far more reliable than the reviews of those cheaper models. The only cons are that it is a bit of a challenge to clean and the sensitivity of the temperature dial could be a little more robust. Others have tried to disconnect the burner to clean under it but if its working good, why take the chance of wrecking it by messing with the assembly? I can live with the little bit of grunge under the heating coil in trade for a reliable burner. As to the temperature dial, I have only been able to keep water boiling at the "Max" setting. Simmering is possible below the "2" setting but you do have to keep an eye on things and stir regularly. I haven't yet tried cooking anything with the temperature dial between "2" and "Max".

Great little burner
Great little burner that got us through our kitchen renovation. We purchased because we were without a cooktop for over a month during our renovation. It's great for simple frying and boiling water. Haven't tried it for super large meals but I'm sure it would be fine.

Great hot plate at an amazing price. It has a few flaws though.
I had this for a month now and I have used it regularly. Also I am a university student so I bought this for its price. This is a great product and it works well. However it doesn't get 5 stars for a few reasons.1: This thing only has off and max heat. The heat control isn't great. At the lowest heat level the water boiled as fast as the max heat level. This cooktop gets pretty hot too which could be a good or bad thing.2: The numbers on the rotating dial for temperature control is completely gone. Since there is only one heat level it really doesn't matter much anyways, but I thought it would be better that it wouldn't fade away.3: The design is good but it isn't easy to clean on the inside. The filament has been screwed tight to the top so anything underneath it is pretty much out of range. I just use a damp cloth to clean the outsides. For the price it is fantastic and I can overlook most of these flaws, however I would've given it a 5 star if the design was made easier to clean the hot plate. All in all a great product for the price. I would definitely recommend it for someone on a tight budget like me.

Crud 😒
Ive only had this unit for a couple of month and already I have to tap it to get it to come on. It never worked like a good burner. Its hard to regulate the heat and either its not hot enough or tooo hot. Barely an in between. Now I have to spend more money and buy another one when I could have just used 100 bucks and got a good one. I think I should be able to get a refund without having to go to all the trouble to go across town to the delivery guy and send it back for 19 bucks. Thats too expensive for me and I bought this thing for the convenience it was supposed to provide me. What a crock is amazon. everything I buy is garbage.
