Is it easy to rip the tape that is provided, or are scissors recommended? We are looking for plane-friendly activities as scissors won't be available.

The tape is difficult to tear for a 4yr old. I let my daughter use safety scissors to do it. I would suggest Wiki stix (Amazon) for a good plane ride activity.

What is the recommended age for this?

I bought this for my son who was 4..he's now 5 and it seems to be a good age for it. It requires patience and focus. My son loves it!!

Would other tape work-like washi? The skinny tape is no longer available.
